Changelog

October 2026

  1. New feature

Zed v1.26 lets users hover over a variable in the editor to inspect its state while paused at a breakpoint.

What this means for you: When you pause a program at a breakpoint (a spot where you tell the editor to stop running), you can now hover over a variable to see its current value right in the editor. This saves you from hunting for it in a separate panel.

How to use it: Update to Zed v1.26. Run your program with a breakpoint set, and when it pauses, hover over a variable.

  2. New feature

Zed v1.25 reduces the app's binary size by about 30% across all platforms.

What this means for you: Zed, a code editor, is now about 30% smaller to download and store on your computer. This holds on every platform.

How to use it: Update to Zed v1.25.

  3. New feature

Zed v1.24 lets users create Git tags directly, from the command palette or from a commit's context menu in Git history or Git Graph.

What this means for you: You can now create a Git tag, a named marker on a point in your project's history, without leaving Zed. That means you can mark a finished version right where you review your commits.

How to use it: Update to Zed v1.24. Run `git: create tag at head` from the command palette. Or choose `Create Tag…` from a commit's context menu in Git history or Git Graph.

  4. New feature

Zed v1.23 adds JSONL and NDJSON file support to its table preview, opened with cmd-k v on macOS or ctrl-k v on Linux and Windows.

September 2026

  1. New model

Zed now lets users who bring their own OpenAI API keys use GPT-6.1 Sol.

  2. New feature

Zed subagents can now compact their context automatically, so they can work on longer tasks.

  3. New feature

Zed v1.22 lets the agent spawn subagents with different models on the fly, and each subagent card shows which model it uses.

  4. New feature

Zed v1.21 adds the `lsp command selector: toggle` action, which runs language server commands beyond cursor-specific actions.

  5. New feature

Zed v1.20 adds an optional cursor movement animation, turned on by setting `cursor_animation.enabled` to `true`.

  6. New feature

Zed v1.19 adds call hierarchy actions that show a function's incoming callers and the functions it calls.

  7. New feature

Zed v1.18 refreshes Markdown previews with larger, higher-contrast body text, roomier spacing, and rounded backgrounds for inline code.

August 2026

  1. New feature

Zed v1.17 now previews CSV, TSV, PSV and SSV files as interactive tables where users can sort and resize columns and filter rows.
