Cursor's iPhone App Runs Your Coding Agents From Anywhere
The AI coding tool just shipped a native iPhone app, so you can start and steer your agents from anywhere away from your desk.
Cursor has spent the last few weeks quietly letting people code away from their laptops. This week it made the move official: there is now a native Cursor app for the iPhone.
What shipped
The app, in public beta, does two main things. You can launch always-on cloud agents straight from your phone, the same background workers that run a coding task while you do something else. And you can reach into the agents already running on your own Mac and steer them remotely, so the machine at home keeps working while you are out.
Cursor's Eric Zakariasson described the loop he has been living in: go on a walk, get an idea, dictate it into the app, and come back to a finished agent you can jump into. Notifications and a live lock-screen status tell you when a job is done or needs a decision, and you can review the changes and merge the finished work without opening a laptop.
How it's different from what came before
Coding from a phone is not brand new. Cursor already let you prompt cloud agents from a mobile browser, and Codex and Claude Code both have their own mobile setups. What the native app adds is polish and reach: voice dictation, real push notifications, Apple's new long-running Live Activities, and the ability to remote-control the agents on your own computer. Early testers who have had it for weeks say it holds up as well as or better than the Codex and Claude Code mobile experiences.
There is some setup friction. As one user pointed out, you have to turn the remote feature on in two places, the web dashboard and Cursor's agents view, before the phone can reach your desktop.
The bigger move behind it
Cursor is owned by SpaceX now, after a $60 billion deal earlier this year, and it is training its own model, Composer, from scratch. A lot of people expected a new Composer version to land alongside the iPhone app; instead the company signaled the model is still cooking. The throughline is that Cursor wants to be the place you work from, on any device, running on compute it increasingly controls.
Right now this is a tool for people who write software, and the loop mechanics are built for them.
But it is a clean look at where a lot of AI work is drifting: from sitting at a desk watching a tool, toward setting something up once and letting it run while you live your life.
