Grok Bot Can Now Search and Watch X for You
SpaceXAI's Grok Bot can now search, read and keep watch on X with no extra setup, and it's starting to run on Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5.
SpaceXAI's Grok Bot can now search, read and keep watch on X for you, with no extra setup.
SpaceXAI, formerly xAI, is the SpaceX-owned company that makes Grok. Grok Bot is the personal agent app that comes with SuperGrok ($30 a month) and other paid plans. Each Bot has its own computer in the cloud, so it can keep working on a job, or check back on a schedule, after you close the app.
Until Wednesday, October 7, getting X posts into it meant adding a separate X add-on, which SpaceXAI calls the X connector, first. Now it's built in, for every Grok Bot user.
Three jobs you can hand Grok Bot on X today
SpaceXAI's follow-up post names three uses: tracking feedback on your product, following a breaking story, and a weekly roundup of your industry.
In SpaceXAI's demo, you ask in plain English, the Bot searches X, reads the posts it finds, and comes back with the main themes and links to the posts.
Track what people say about your product. This is the one SpaceXAI demos. Swap in your own product name:
Search X for what people said about [your product] in the past week. Group the posts into praise, complaints and feature requests, and give me links to the three most-liked posts in each group.
Follow a breaking story. The Bot can check back on its own and tell you when something changes, using the same scheduled tasks that run the weekly roundup below.
Check X every hour for news that [the thing you're waiting on] has happened. Only message me when it does, and include the post that confirms it.
Get a weekly roundup of your industry. This pairs the new X search with Grok Bot's scheduled tasks, which run a job on a timer.
Every Monday at 8 AM, search X for the biggest conversations in [your industry] from the past seven days. Give me the five biggest, one line on why each is worth my attention, and a link to the best post on each.
Run a roundup by hand once or twice before you put it on a schedule, and click a few of the links. That way you know the summary matches what the posts actually say.
What Grok Bot still won't do on X
It reads and reports back, but it won't post or send DMs on its own. It can draft a post or a reply in your voice, and you review it and send it yourself.
Three more limits:
- Anything tied to your own X account still needs the X connector. That covers posting and reading your home timeline or your mentions.
- You get summaries, not a spreadsheet. It reports what it found in its own words. It isn't built for pulling thousands of posts out as raw data.
- The limits aren't public. SpaceXAI hasn't said how far back search goes, how many posts a Bot can read a day, or how often it can check.
Which plans come with Grok Bot
There's no Grok Bot plan of its own. You get it with SuperGrok ($30 a month) and its bigger Plus and Heavy plans, or with X Premium+, once you link that subscription to Grok Bot, per SpaceXAI's changelog.
It also comes with Cursor Pro ($20 a month) and up. SpaceX bought Cursor in June. The cheaper SuperGrok Lite doesn't include it.
Grok Bot runs on Mac, Windows, iPhone and iPad. The X search works for anyone on those plans, with nothing to switch on.
Grok Bot is starting to run on Claude Opus 5.5
The other Grok Bot news this week is the model underneath it. SpaceXAI started moving Grok Bot onto Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5.
It started with a post from Elon Musk on Tuesday night, October 6, saying Grok Bot will use "the best back end model for any given task, including Claude Opus 5.5, MidJourney, Suno and other leading APIs."
A Grok Bot engineer replied that Opus 5.5 was "rolling out right now." Replying to a question on X, the Grok account said Bots will run "primarily on Claude Opus 5.5 as the core model", and can hand specialized jobs to extra helper agents running Cursor's models.
So it's rolling out now, but SpaceXAI hasn't announced it on its site or in its changelog yet, so it isn't clear whether every Bot has switched.
What's settled and what isn't:
- You don't pick the model. There's no model menu. SpaceXAI chooses behind the scenes.
- Midjourney and Suno have no date. Musk named them, and they make images and music, but neither is live in Grok Bot and nobody has said when it will be.
- Simple questions may go to smaller models. Musk said quick questions will go to small, fast ones and hard questions to big ones, with no details yet.
- No price change was mentioned. Nothing says whether Claude-powered work uses up your plan's limits faster.
Grok Bot beat the other two big personal agents, OpenAI's Dots and Meta's Muse, at work jobs in my test this week, and that was while it still ran on Grok 4.7. Now that it runs on Opus 5.5, what I think is the best coding model in the world right now, it should get even more powerful.
In that test, Grok Bot leaned on X for its research on my YouTube job, which is where I expected it to shine.
As for the X search, I actually didn't know Grok Bot needed an add-on for it. I assumed it could search X all along.
Now that it's built in, you can point Grok Bot at product research, competitor research, content research and plenty more.
If you want to get the most out of it, I recommend going to your Grok Bot and saying:
Do a thorough audit of our past conversations and the biggest things we've worked on this past month, then tell me where searching X posts could help with any of them.
