I think faster than I type, so a voice tool that only works while I stare at the recording screen has never been much use to me. The second I switched apps to check a fact, it quit on me.
The Typeless 1.7.0 update fixes that. It added a background voice mode that keeps transcribing while you do other things — scroll, switch to another app, check a message — without making you sit on the recording screen the whole time. You start dictating, then go about your work, and it's still listening.
It also shipped an "Ask Anything" feature. You can ask it a question and it answers out loud while you keep working, so you're not stopping to open a new tab and dig something up in the middle of a thought.
One catch worth saying plainly: it's iPhone only right now. I tested it on iPhone, and there's no Android or desktop version yet. If your phone is an Android, this update isn't for you today.
If you've ever lost a good idea because typing it out was too slow to keep up, this is the kind of small change that actually earns its place on your phone. You can talk out a note, an email, or a first draft of a script while your hands are doing something else — walking, washing up, riding the train. The thinking and the typing stop fighting each other. Give it ten minutes on your next idea and see whether talking gets you to a draft faster than typing does.
