Opus Premiere Editing

Has Claude Code do the rough cut of a video inside the real Adobe Premiere Pro, through a skill and a Premiere bridge.

Claude Code skillOpen source

Works with
  • Claude Code
  • Adobe Premiere Pro
A marble scholar at a vintage film editing bench splicing 35mm film, a waveform rising from the strip.

This is the setup I use to have Claude Code, running Opus 5.5, do the rough cut of my YouTube videos in the real Adobe Premiere Pro while I keep recording.

It has two parts: the editing skill my agent follows, and a bridge that lets the agent run scripts inside Premiere instead of clicking around with computer use. I wrote up how it went on the blog, in "AI Video Editing in Premiere Pro With Claude Opus 5.5."

What it does

  • Organizes each take into its section's bin and keeps an untouched copy in a RAW sequence.
  • Runs Premiere's transcript and Pauses pass, then a second Pause Cut from the audio waveform to catch the gaps Premiere leaves.
  • Reads the full transcript and cuts false starts, restarts and repeated lines, keeping the last complete version.
  • Follows spoken directions you give while recording, like "Chat, cut that".
  • Assembles one REVIEW sequence per section. When asked, it also finishes: B-roll, punch-in jump cuts, quote cards, voice cleanup and export.

How it works

  1. A background Premiere extension watches a folder. The agent drops a request in, the extension runs it in Premiere, and the result comes back logged by request ID.
  2. One request runs at a time. A request that times out is marked uncertain and never silently retried.
  3. The agent clicks Premiere's Transcribe button and Pauses filter with computer use, since those have no scripting API.
  4. It checks its own work with exported stills before calling a section done.

What you need

  • macOS and Adobe Premiere Pro
  • Claude Code (the skill is written for Opus 5.5)
  • Node, to run the bridge client and MCP server
  • python3, to install the extension
  • Adobe's CEP debug mode turned on, since the extension is unsigned

Install it

Terminal
git clone https://github.com/per-simmons/opus-premiere-editing.git
cp -R opus-premiere-editing/skill ~/.claude/skills/premiere-editing
cd opus-premiere-editing/bridge && python3 install.py --install
  1. Turn on CEP debug mode, for example defaults write com.adobe.CSXS.11 PlayerDebugMode 1 (also .12 on newer Premiere), then restart Premiere.
  2. Easiest path: hand the repo to your agent and ask it to set everything up on your machine.

The full instructions, and the skill itself, are on GitHub.

Try asking

  • “Rough-cut this folder of takes in Premiere following the skill.”
  • “Do the Pauses pass and the waveform Pause Cut on this section.”
  • “Cut the bad takes from this section's transcript and assemble the REVIEW sequence.”

Good to know

  • By default the extension accepts only two reviewed commands. Letting the agent run its own scripts is an opt-in that bypasses the built-in guards.
  • Use it on a copy of your project first.
