Your prompt for ChatGPT
[What you want, in one sentence]. It's for [who will read it and why]. [Any facts it needs: dates, rules, numbers]. Keep it [length and format]. [Anything to leave out].

Or let ChatGPT ask you first
I want you to write a prompt for me. My task: [What you want, in one sentence].

Before you write it, ask me up to five questions about anything you'd need to know: who it's for, the facts only I have, the length and format I want, and anything to leave out.

Then write the prompt in this order: the task in one sentence, who it's for, the facts, the length and format, and what to leave out. Use [square brackets] for anything I should fill in each time I use it. Give me only the prompt.

ChatGPT prompt generator

Pick ChatGPT and a job above. The writing prompt fills the five blanks from our prompt generator guide: what you want, who it’s for, the facts it needs, the length and format, and anything to leave out.

Under it is a second prompt that turns ChatGPT itself into the generator: it asks you up to five questions, then writes a reusable prompt with [brackets] for the parts that change.

Claude prompt generator

The Claude prompts stay short on purpose. We ran long and cut-down versions of three work prompts 27 times on Opus 5.5, and every run got the main answers right. Lines like “take a deep breath and think step by step” and “this is CRITICAL” changed nothing we could measure. Facts Claude can’t know, the length, the format and what to leave out did change the answer, so those are the fields here.

For a small app, the prompts are the ones from 12 Claude prompts we actually ran: the first version, what to change after you try it, and asking before a big change.

Image prompt generator

Image mode follows the prompts we used to test ChatGPT Images 2.6: what’s in the picture, where it is, the light and the shape. Text you want on the image is spelled out in quotes with “No other text”, and if you attach your own photo, the second prompt tells the model to keep its exact shape, colors, label and logo.

Video prompt generator

Video mode writes one continuous shot, the way our Kling 4.0 and Gemini Omni 1.2 Flash test prompts did: the length and shape, who or what is in it, where, the light, one camera move, the sound, and any spoken line word for word in quotes.

Every template here comes from a post where we ran it. For bigger jobs, the Claude Code skills Pat uses package a prompt with its instructions so you don’t retype it.
